Product Description
this lens looked very identical to the previous zoom with normal configuration. It is not a USM lens and uses AFD as AF actuator. However, what separates it from the previous version was, it is a sophisticated professional zoom lens with a different configuration internally (but it was the same with the FD-mount 100-300mm L lens in its 15 elements in 10 groups design). To correct the residual chromatic aberrations (secondary spectrum) common in 300mm-class lenses, fluorite (an artificially crystallized form of calcium fluoride developed by Canon) and high-rcfraction/low-dispersion UD glass elements are used in the 1st and 3rd groups (2nd and 7th element). With its four-zoom groups design, its close focusing distance of 4.6 ft. (approx. 1.5 ft) in the macro range set at 300mm, the lens has excellent macro capability (maximum 0.26X, with Extension Tubes, it can increases the magnification further). This Electro Focus EF 100-300mm f/5.6L has a built-in, full range macro features and inner, rear three-group moving zoom systems to achive its compactness. Other features: use of 8-blades diaphragm for more natural out of focus blur. The lens has a very high quality feel and look - rigid in its construction. Metal rear lens mount (as usual for an oldie EF).
